neuroimageWhat happens in the brain when our mind is wandering ? We are all familiar with the everyday experience of catching ourselves thinking of past or future events, like planning for next holidays or thinking of last night movie, instead of being focused on the task at hand. In a study using electroencephalography Claire Braboszcz and Arnaud Delorme have shown that neuronal activity during mind wandering shares the same characteristic as decreased alertness. This is also one of the first electrophysiological experiment to rely purely on subject’s introspective judgement, demonstrating that such judgements are relevant for neuroimaging. This work is published in Neuroimage and made the cover of the 2011 February edition.
